After coming oh-so-close to the coveted Section 10 Championship in 2017, the Valencia 19U Girls team rewrote history, Nov. 10-11, in Bakersfield and shut out four straight opponents to capture the 2018 Section 10 Championship!

The Valencia Girls team, coached by David Chambers, fell one goal short in a dramatic shootout in the 2017 final, but this year they left no doubt as they won by scores of 7-0, 4-0, 3-0 and 3-0 in the championship game against Victorville. Five different players scored during the championship tournament while the defense shut down every opponent.

Having won the National Cup during Summer 2018, the team started the regular season with high hopes but lost its opener 2-1 to Canyon. According to Coach Chambers, that woke the team up as they put together 15 straight victories, including winning the Area 10 Championship (encompassing all Santa Clarita Valley AYSO teams) en route to the Section 10 championship.

Valencia’s explosive and balanced attack saw teammates from all ends of the field score throughout the season. Among the forwards were Jasmine Tapia, Alexis Chambers, Lauraynn Burkhead, and MacKenzie Perez. Brooke Chambers led the team in scoring and helped anchor a versatile midfield that included Megan Orr, Maddie Aguilar, Jennifer Rodriguez, Shyleen Martinez, Arianne Landaverde, and Daisy Carrillo. The iron-clad defense was anchored by goalkeeper Toni Walcott, and defensive backs Wendy Mojica, Megan Gardener, and Gisselle Pilar.

Collectively the team scored 66 goals and allowed just eight goals in 16 games, including none in the Section 10 Championship tournament against top teams from Fresno to the San Fernando Valley and from the High Desert to the Coastal cities from Malibu to Lompoc.

Congratulations to Coach Chambers, the team and the families who enthusiastically represented Region 678 with spirit and class throughout the season and the championship tournament.
